Dancing for Tourism
The 2nd Dancing for Tourism Event held at the DeVent Center in Norfolk on Saturday April 17th, is history but the memories will be around for a long time. With an estimated 700 plus people attending the event it was a great success. This year dancers were dancing to win $1200 in prize money to be given back to an event they were representing. There were 3 dance categories:
The County Couples Dance competition was won by Felicia Reed and Rob Tiedgen representing and winning four hundred dollars for Battle Creek Fun Days. Felicia Reed is a student at Northeast Community College her parents are Alan and Karen Reed of Battle Creek. Siblings include Shannon and Jared. Her favorite hobby is scrapbooking.
Rob Tiedgen is very busy teaching dance, farming and auctioneering. Robs parents are Bob and Mary Tiedgen, Battle Creek. Robs favorite hobby is eating! Both are dancing for their community of Battle Creek and they said it sounded like a fun event to participate in.
Battle Creek Fun Days is June 11th on Battle Creeks main street. Thudwinker Band will be performing at the street dance from 9 11. All ages are welcome. There will be a special place for minors to enjoy and dance to the music.
Group Dance Competition won by 106 Kix & Dance Etc. representing and winning four hundred dollars for the Bing Bang Boom event held in Norfolk in July, They danced a Hip Hop to a dance mix Boom a variety of songs.
106 KIx features music from the 80s 90s and now.. music to touch the heart and soul our audience from a young 13 year old to the the young at heart at 60. Reaching 120 miles around the Norfolk community. 106 Kix features sports play from their award winning sports director, covering games from Norfolk and surrounding communites.
Dane Etc. Located on North 2nd street in Norfolk, is owned by Barb Kruse and Kim Junge . Dance etc.
The Big Bang Boom was formed in 1999. The first fireworks at Skyview Lake were completed with a $1500 budget. Along with a new addition to the show of Fireballs the intensity has moved forward to the next lever. Big Bang Boom Inc. now operates on a budget of $40,000. There are many activities for the entire family . This year the date is July 3rd, 2010 with the fireworks display at 10 p.m.
The Modern Dance Competition was won by Jolene and Jeff Steffen of Crofton representing and winning four hundred dollars for the Crofton 4th of July Celebration and Street Dance. They danced a Swing/Jitterbug , To Sing Sing Sing by Benny Goodman.
Jeff and Jolene farm east of Crofton. They also work together with Jolene’s Art Career. She is known for her area landscape paintings and art gallery and studio at their farm. They have a daughter, Jenna in Med School and a son Cole, a 7th grader. As a family they enjoy endless hobbies together involving anything outdoors or creating items for their home or sale at art shows.
They became involved in this event after being asked by the Crofton Community Club who thought They danced well at their 25th Anniversary Celebration a year ago.

Annual Jerry Steffen Memorial Golf tournament hosted by Keith and Lyle Steffen tee times at start at 11:00 a.m
The annual Alumni Banquet happy hr 5-7 dinner at 7
and the Annual Street Dance 9-12:30 Go Figure is the band playing
Mark your calendars for a great weekend in Crofton July 2nd and 3rd .

The peoples Choice in the Modern Dance was won by Amy Gall students dancing for TAPS HONOR DANCE TEAM SUMMER TOUR NE, IA, MN. They will be dancing to So What Dancing a Modern Swing Dance. They will be representing TAPS Honors Dance Team in a summer Tour. During the first week of June TAPS Honor Dance team will charter a bus from Norfolk and travel across Nebraska , Iowa and Minnesota dancing. The children will be introducing and representing themselves to crowds as dancers from North East Nebraska and naming upcoming events and performances in Nebraska that TAPS will be performing at. It is a great opportunity for this group to promote Northeast Nebraska and invite people to come visit our communities.
The Peoples Choice overall and the traveling trophy went home with Jeff and Jolene Steffen of Crofton.
